Of the half dozen conferences and roundtables that took place during the day yesterday, the media speakers were the writer Espido Freire and fashion designer Modesto Lomba, and their interventions were the most applauded. Both spoke on local key, making a nod to the origins, to the struggle of creators and efforts and loneliness of the innovators of any sector.

The prestigious designer extolled, at a conference in Monforte, the work of this footwear company and other Galician craftsmen. At the same convention, the writer Espido Freire made a strong defense of the role of autonomous within the national economy.

“How many companies are known in the fashion industry that has worked successfully for five generations like Calzados Losal? How many companies have to dominate to such a high level artisan craft and for so long?”. These were the words of Modesto Lomba at the Parador of Monforte yesterday, in the context of a conference on creativity organized by the network of cities and territories España Creativa; a project behind which several universities and administrations at different levels are, which brought a hundred people.

The initial forecast was that Modesto Lomba should analyze, with designer María Barros, the cervantinos values of modernity and universality in the fashion world, because the organization of the congress – taking advantage of that this year is commemorated the fourth centenary of the Miguel de Cervantes´death, and the writer´s relationship with the seventh Conde de Lemos – wanted that all papers should do some reference to the author. But the board ended up doing an analysis of the importance of Galician creators in the fashion world, and that was where Lomba recognized the value and contribution of the crafts. “It is something completely distinctive and unusual the wisdom that in Galicia shoemakers preserved”.

Also he praised the ability of the Galician designers had to give a projection of his work, for being able to create an industry around. “The Catalan industry was not able to create a benchmark, but there are several in Galicia because they knew how to give out the binomial creativity and industry”.

Both Modesto Lomba as María Barros, his fellow panel discussion, stressed the need for creative have a support network in which to make the jump to market.

The writer Espido was in charge of giving the opening conference of the congress of Monforte yesterday. After the director of the event, Belén Elisa Díaz; the Regional Minister of Economy, Francisco Conde; the President of the Provincial of Lugo, Alfonso Campo; and the mayor, José Tome, open the convention, Espido Freire was responsible for direct entry into the field.

Her role was to analyze Cervantes´trace in today´s society but, as happened later with Lomba, Espido Freire took the paper to present and she made her own analysis of the sector in which she moves.

She spoke as a writer and entrepreneur of several cultural projects and, to the surprise of the public, she made a strong defense of freelance of small and medium enterprises. In addition, she was especially critical of the role of governments.

“The ideas are not lacking, what we lack it is a structure and fabric in which they move them forward. You have to build these networks and set aside excessive taxation and harassment of SMEs and freelances”.

The writer insisted that “the leaders are filled their mouths talking about entrepreneurs and innovation, but the reality is different. The reality is that freelances and SMEs are very profitable and very little upset”.

Espido also referred to conflicts over copyright and she explained that “creatives live of copyright that are threatened and robbed daily, without conscience and without anything be done to avoid it”.

She described as ruinous the current economic model and she insisted that culture is an investiment in the medium and long term, meaning that years and centuries. And it was at that point that she tied and brought back the issue of Cervantes. “That is his legacy that transcends the literary. There are dozens of municipalities with hiking and gastronomic trails following the figure of Cervantes or ´El Quijote`”.
