The handcrafted footwear that Calzados Losal manufactured in Monforte de Lemos since 120 years ago has reached China. Last March, at the international trade fair of this sector that is held in Milan (Italy), the people of Monforte de Lemos contacted two large sellers, one located in Hong Kong and the other in Beijing, who asked them for samples in order to evaluate whether the shoes would be liked by their clients.

The yes was resounding and to Hong Kong Calzados Losal has just sent a shipment of 150 pairs of women’s shoes. “It is the first time that a shipment of this type has been requested from the foreign market, since most of our manufacturing is focused on men’s footwear,” said Gonzalo López, head of sales and fifth generation of the family business.

“The women’s shoe is a product in which we are doing very interesting things, with modern designs without straying from quality. Perhaps the interest of the Hong Kong businessman is there and, perhaps, it can open new doors for us in the foreign market” Gonzalo López highlighted.

As for the Beijing market, they have sent 300 pairs of men there. López stated that his buyer demands “footwear manufactured in Spain, manufactured by hand and with leathers and other high-quality materials”, requirements that meet everything that comes out of Calzados Losal.

These are what allow Calzados Losal to supply footwear to the most exclusive shoe stores in several European and South American countries, and now in Asia, to fit personalities from political and cultural life.
Gonzalo López described as “excellent” their participation in the third edition of the ViaExterior program, launched by Zona Franca de Vigo. It was an initiative that aimed to promote the internationalization of small and medium businesses Galician companies.

A total of 20 from different sectors participated in it, of which two were from Monforte de Lemos and both related to the world of footwear. They were Calzados Losal, a factory created in the city in 1899, and Curtidos Galaicos, with a history that began in 1951 and that for years focused its activity on the manufacture of safety footwear.
